Chimera Jailbreak
</section>The iOS 12 - iOS 12.1.2 A12 Jailbreak is now out in the form of Chimera. The Electra team has seen fit to release this true jailbreak for iOS 12 – iOS 12.1.2 for all supported iPhone and iPad models.
Chimera is a semi-tethered jailbreak. This means if you reboot your device, you will have to jailbreak it again. Before using Chimera to jailbreak your iPhone, make sure to delete any OTA file on your device otherwise it would end up entering a boot loop.
There are certain key differences between the Electra jailbreak and Chimera jailbreak which was released to the general public a few months ago.
As most have already noticed though, the Chimera Jailbreak doesn’t support Cydia installer. Instead Coolstar and the electra team behind Chimera opted to bundle it with their own Cydia alternative dubbed Sileo. some jailbreak fans became outraged that they were forced to give up Cydia. However don’t fret, there are some solution to get Cydia on the A12 Jailbreak!
So the Chimera jailbreak tool by Electra team drops only Sileo package manager instead Cydia Package manager and Sileo uses the Substitute. Electra developers clearly mention that this is not beta testing. Sileo V1.0 is the first official release of Sileo.
According to CoolStar, Cydia only works with iOS 11 because of the countless “band-aids, zip ties, and velcro” that were implemented to make it so. Given that it’s no longer being maintained by Saurik as actively as it once was, the Electra Team believes that it’s time for a fresh start.
Sileo has been carefully crafted with 64-bit devices in mind; and it works on jailbroken iOS 11 to iOS 12 devices. Those jailbroken on iOS 10 and earlier will continue to use Cydia, as Sileo will not be made backward-compatible.
It’s also worth mentioning that Sileo works seamlessly with your existing setup. It will recognize all the purchases you’ve made in Cydia previously, and the new interface should cooperate nicely with your favorite repositories, including Packix.
CoolStar also mentions that the team is working on Safe Mode and Substitute replacements for iOS 11, and this is exciting news for jailbreakers that are concerned about installing potentially-harmful packages.
