嚙齒類(例如松鼠，然後錢鼠不是嚙齒類)在國外紀錄是極為少見的帶病物種，因為牠們很小又多半吃素或吃蟲，通常一發病很快就死了，所以並不是常見的狂犬病傳染源

然後，遭到帶狂犬病的動物咬傷後會有30-40%的機率發病，而發病後才是接近100%的死亡率(#1)並且在未發病前施打疫苗後有九成以上的治癒機率(#2)，全球曾有一例發病後治癒的案例(#3)
