Food review: Pukekohoe masala【食記】奧克蘭Pukekohoe 印度餐廳Masala

After a long work day, our bass recommended an Indian restaurant-Masala in Pukekohoe town serving special NZ$ 10 mains from Mondays to Wednesdays. I wouldn't say no to Indian cuisine so my better half and I decided to give it a try.


經過漫長的一個工作天後,老闆推薦我們到奧克蘭Pukekohoe鎮上的一間連鎖印度餐廳Masala吃晚餐,這間餐廳星期一到星期三的主菜都是10塊紐幣。栗本來就無法對印度料理say no,因此栗與維尼決定來試試看。


 




 


The Masala restaurant is on the corner of king street, with simple decor but elegant atmosphere. Rather than Indians, quite a few kiwi were there. It wasn't so busy when we arrived around 7pm so our order came fairly quickly within 15 mins.


Masala位於King Street的街角,餐廳的裝潢不豪華但種優雅的氛圍,用餐的客人感反而是洋人比較多,印度人小貓兩三隻。大約七點多到時不會太多人,因此點完餐15分鐘內就送上桌了。


 



 


We order two plates of entree-Sizzler Platter (NZ Z$18.5) and Tandoori Platter (NZ$23). The former was the selection of samosa, onion bhaji, chicken tikka & seekh kebabs and the latter was Tandoori Chicken, Seekh Kebab, Murg Malai kebab & Tandoori Prawn.


我們點了兩盤開胃菜各是2人份的Sizzler Platter NZ$18.5 以及2人份的Tandoori Platter (NZ$23)Sizzler Platter有咖哩餃、炸洋蔥、印度咖哩雞與碎肉串。Tandoori Platter則是有酸乳酪烤雞、碎肉串、炭烤奶油肉串以及酸乳酪蝦。


 




 


For our main, we chose quite traditional Indian cuisines: Chicken Tikka Masala(NZ$18.5) with medium hot and Saagwala with mild (NZ$18.5).Needless to say, we also ordered a famous Indian drink: mango lassi (NZ$6) and Naan bread with garlic (NZ$3.9) and butter (NZ$2.9) flavour respectively.


栗與維尼則的主餐各點了印度咖哩雞 NZ$18.5 以及波菜燴牛 NZ$18.5,另外還點了印度有名飲料-mango lassi NZ$6。套餐雖然已含有印度香米,但來到印度餐廳就不會錯過吃印度烤餅,我們個別點了奶油 NZ$2.9與大蒜口味NZ$3.9的印度烤餅。


 



 


Chicken Tikka Masala is a fairly traditional Indian cuisine. Chicken are roasted in the tandoori oven and cooked with onions, capsicum and spice. It wasn't so overly hot and sauce tasted a bit thick because of cream. Mix the flavoury sauce with rice or dip the Nann in the sauce are both good ways to enjoy the dish.


印度咖哩雞是道非常傳統的印度料理,將雞肉放在印度特別的坦都爐裡烤熟之後與洋蔥、青椒與各種香料混合而成,這道菜維尼選了中等辣度,吃起來其實不太辣。不論將香氣十足的醬是和著飯吃或者用Nann沾醬都都非常不錯。


 



 


My first try of Saagwala was fantastic. The spinach sauce tasted not as thick as Chicken Tikka Masala so it still remained fresh in the last bit. However the beef wasn't as good as expected, chicken was far more tender.


栗首次嘗試的波菜燴牛吃起來非常滿意,波菜醬汁吃起來不像印度咖哩雞那濃郁,因此吃完最後一口還是覺得挺爽口,可惜牛肉表現不比想像中的好,雞肉比較嫩。
