Twitter user @dtsaltlakecity tweeted, “Most incredible meteor just slowly passed over Salt Lake City.”
“Whatever just burned up in the atmosphere was just epic. Was like a big meteor that broke up while cascading across the sky! #meteorshower,” tweeted @KristinaV5.
Some were wary over the confirmation that it was in fact a Chinese rocket.
“A lot of rockets flying around lately hmm I wonder whats really going on,” Facebook user Andrew Neff posted.

Facebook user George K. Howsepian posted, “If that's all it was, why have we never seen anything like it before?…I thought at first it was a skyrocket and was lookin' for it to explode but it just kept on flyin'. I've never seen anything like it.”

U.S. Strategic Command spokeswoman Julie Ziegenhorn wouldn’t say if the rocket ever posed danger to people, but added that the command often sees rocket re-entries.
Jonathan McDowell, an astronomer at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge, Mass., told the Los Angeles Times that the Chinese rocket launched on June 25.
Jonathan McDowell,
It re-entered the atmosphere after about a month in low orbit and was likely traveling about 18,000 mph, he said.
“Something this big enters in an uncontrolled way probably once a month,” McDowell told the LA Times, but later clarified that it happens more like once per ye

Did you really expect them to? LOL.
US Strategic Command: Guys, drop everything you're doing. *Buzzfeed* wants information on the bright light in the sky last night. Oh, you're on the phone with the Pentagon? Tell them you'll call back. This is Buzzfeed for Christ's sake! It's a big deal!!!
