I am female and decided to take a chance on seeing if I liked the men's version better than the women's one. I ordered a size smaller and as soon as I put it on I knew I going to keep it. I am 5'10" with long arms/slim build and for a men's small I thought the arms were rather long but that is better than being too short. The jacket was a good length on me and it's very comfortable. Not as light weight as a down jacket of similar appearance but I can at least wash this easily. I am sure I will get wear this a lot when we head back into winter.

Perfect Cool Weather Jacket
Reviewed by Jimmy the Kayaker from West Michigan on Tuesday, June 30, 2015
I purchased this jacket as a light weight, packable outer shell for cool mornings and nights and high altitude touring in the Argentine Eastern Andes. It performed exactly as I hoped: provided warmth, packed compactly, shielded the wind, and looks sharp. Initially I did not embrace the hood - I prefer jackets without- but when encountering windy conditions at high altitudes I was glad to have it. I am a 6 foot, 170# trim fit build and found the Large fit perfectly with a wicking and Icebreaker 200 base layer beneath.

Not up to Icebreaker standards
Reviewed by COShiker from Colorado on Wednesday, April 1, 2015
Nice looking jacket and well made. But the outer fabric is much stiffer than expected of this type/style jacket. It is stiff enough that if you don't have the hood up it forces the neck opening to be open more than you'd like to keep warm. When you bend over and flex the material flexes easily, but it sticks out awkwardly and looks a little funny. This isn't apparent from the model photos, but when you move naturally it just doesn't look right and feels a little off. Not sure if it would break down like leather jackets and be better as it is used, but just not worth the risk at this price. The liner material is nicer than similar wool insulation puff jackets from other manufacturers but the drape and feel of the outer material is much worse.

Great Icebreaker Product!

My new favorite piece of outerwear. It is very light, very stylish and very comfortable. I'm 6'1 1/2", 180lbs and I went with a Large (Chartruse) as I'll use it for an outer layer primarily. I could have comfortably fit a Medium as well if I wanted to use it as a mid layer. I wear it around town and light hikes.
I've worn it comfortably in temps from the low 50's (over a shirt) to the high 20's (over shirt and sweater). I haven't had the opportunity yet, but I'm sure I could wear it down to he low 20's. Blocks wind well, too. Light snow and mist are no problem - the jacket dries quickly, but I would't want to wear it without a shell in heavier percipitation.
Looks very well-made. The details are exquisite, but simple. From the shell, to the lining, to the pockets, cuffs and zippers - the item exudes quality and style.
A small criticism would be that the hood is a little large and could fit a more percicely.
This item is discontinued? Oh well. Get this while you can!

Icebreaker Helix MerinoLoft Hooded Jacket
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Bob from Minnesota on Monday, March 2, 2015
I bought this jacket as a mid-layer to keep me warm when hiking, skiing (alpine) and hunting. These are not high intensity activities but can generate a fair amount of body heat. I have in the past tried to layer light weight down jackets but they did not breathe very well and would get clammy. This jacket has proven to be a great solution.
Pros: The fit is tight and right - no binding and trim enough to fit easily under my shell.
The zippers are first rate - glide smoothly and feel like they will last a lifetime.
The jacket breathes (though it's too warm for cross country skiing or running).
High zipper to keep out the wind.
Wool lined pockets.
Cons: The hood cinches down but could use a second set of drawstrings to allow for a better fit.
It's a bit heavy for backpacking.
