In the mid-ranges — up to, say, 4500rpm — it sounds baleful and hollow, like a lonely wolf. But if you keep your foot planted in the carpet and go up past 6000rpm, it starts to sound as though it’s angry about being a hollow wolf. It sounds — and this is the highest praise you can lavish on any car — like a Ferrari 458 Italia.
I'm not sure whether it's that good but I do love the engine sound. The more I drive it the more I like the engine sound... IT'S SO SWEET!!!

I think my old G35S brake is still good. I have to admit its brake pedal free play is longer than my wife's M and GSF. (It is there even when new. I think that's the way it is.) However its function(effectiveness) is still very good.
Remember. I changed to use Hawk HPS brake pads on my G. The Hawk pads also changes my G brake characteristic somewhat. I have to use more brake force below 30 km/h but it feels quite good on the highway. Besides Hawk brake pads I also installed stainless steel brake lines on my G.
Now let's talk about my GSF brake. At low speed it feels much sharper than my G. However on the highway I have to use more brake force to get same braking power as my old G. In the beginning I didn't realize that and got scared sometimes. I wonder how that can happen? Look at huge Brembo brake!!! Is the new Brembo brake supposed to be MUCH BETTER than small and old OEM brake on my G ALL THE TIME!?!
I think my OLD G is still good in terms of pure performance factors such as steering, handling, damping, braking, power, etc. Before I bought GSF I had tested many cars such as Q50 Red Sport 400(3 times), IS350 F sport, 335 M sport, M3(2 times), Cayman, GT-R, 86, etc. I think that's why every time I returned to my G from tests, the only impression to me was STIFF RIDE(caused by Bilstein PSS10) and nothing else...
By the way the only car which I tested and might feel as stiff as my G was 2012 GT-R. I think recent GT-R also becomes softer.
PS: Of course if I test all those cars on race track, I may have very different experiences...
The thing impressed me most was the stable ride. OMG! This car is so stable even though it's slightly used. I think this car is the most stable car I've ever driven and ridden!!! In addition it ride is still a little bit more comfortable than my GSF's and MUCH better than my G. (This is really amazing because it's stable and comfortable at the same time!!!)
The steering(in comfort mode) is firmer than my GSF's. In sport mode its steering is firmer than my G35S's. However the steering feedback is about the same as my GSF's and maybe less than my G's. Besides I also think GSF steering is more precise.
In addition, I feel M5 is not nimble at all. It felt like a big sedan. I agree that the review from TOP GEAR. GSF feels smaller. I think GSF is just like Japanese ZERO fighter. It's light, precise, nimble and good at close fight.
I think both M5 and GSF are good. They both have both pros and cons..., I think. Maybe drivers in M5 have a little more confidence when driving fast but my GSF is not bad at all!?!
PS: It's much more reasonable to compare my GSF with M5 instead of M3 because M3 is much smaller and M5 size is similar to GSF...
However when on the highway ramp my GSF comes alive again!?! So in my opinion my GSF handling is still very good(if not better). GSF just cannot match the ride quality on highway from M5.
M5's steering is firm but it doesn't provide more feedback I like from my old G!?! (I think that stiff PSS10 really helps and KW V3 is even better!)
M5's transmission is super fast but my GSF's transmission is also fast especially at sport/sport+ mode. I would like to show an example as below. The below numbers are not real numbers. They're just my guess!?!
G35S = 0.25 sec
GSF = 0.1 sec
M5 = 0.01 sec
You definitely can feel the difference from 0.25 sec to 0.1 sec but I bet you won't feel the difference from 0.1 sec to 0.01 sec because 0.1 is already very fast!!!
In addition I also didn't enjoy M5's V8 turbo engine sound, either. I think my GSF sounds much sweeter!!!
I also like GSF's Mark Levinson's sound system more...
I would say yes and no. Yes is "Ohlins coilover will stiff GSF suspension even more. So of course GSF's handling will beat that M5 by a lot." No is "Factory setup is best balance setup. So even I put best shocks on my GSF. My GSF will NOT beat that M5 which has very comfortable and stable quality ride built by wonderful BMW engineers!!!" I think that's why so many people still buy BMWs...
