Yes. I live in US.
I also bought 5 year old 2000 Maxima from a very small used car lot in Taipei and turned out to be good buy except two issues. One was MAF sensor(I replaced it with one from Cefiro). The other was coolant leak from throttle body. Guess how I fixed it??? I just bypassed and removed the coolant pipes in throttle body. Those coolant only keep from frozen for TB during very cold weather. Taiwan is very warm. So it's safe to remove them...
You're right. Buying used cars in Taiwan would be QUITE RISKY. So you HAVE TO be very careful...
In addition the conditions of used cars in US are better or much better than those with same ages in Taiwan.
PS. I also bought 4 year old 1992 Civic LX(built in USA) from a very small used car lot in Taipei and it turned out to be good.
