With three cat 1 climbs, this certainly isn’t an opening stage for the sprinters. This is the toughest opening stage the organisers have used in recent history. Is it too hard for all the quick men?

--- Finale：The same finish that is regularly used. The descent into the final kilometre is fast, before a slight kick-up near the finish. The bunch is likely to be small, meaning positioning won’t be a big issue, but it also means a late attacker has a chance of success.

● Climbs

--- Santa Fe del Montseny

25.1km at 4.6% is a long one to get the race started with. After an easy opening, the majority of the climb is between 5% and 7%. The sprinters won’t like this.

The organisers have split this into two cat 1 climbs, but if you combine the climbs you get 16km at 4.4%. This should make life far too difficult for a number of riders and expect to see a relatively large groupetto forming.

After being disappointed today, the sprinters will be keen on fighting it out for this stage, but the finish certainly isn’t easy. Once the peloton hit the beach, the riders head out on one lap of a tricky looking circuit, featuring a few climbs.

Cresting with 25km remaining, this climb will be too hard for some of the quick men, as it’s 5.9km at 4.7%, with a maximum of 11%. A nice descent leads into the finale of the stage.

The first passage of the finishing line sees the riders potentially pick up some bonus seconds.This comes at the top of a little drag and the GC riders will certainly be interested in it.
The 2nd sprint comes with under 8km remaining and is another great chance to collect 3 seconds.
These seconds could be vital by the end of the week.

＊ As you can see, the final 12.5km isn’t straightforward.
Not only do we have some lumps along the way, but the majority of the time the peloton are on narrow roads beside the beach.
Positioning will be very important, that’s for the GC riders as well as the sprinters.

＊ The descent into the final 2km is fast and flowing, a rider who takes some risks could get a little gap. The peloton then have to dodge between some beachside cafes, before beginning the final drag up to the line. This is not an easy finish.

＊ The gradients aren’t particularly challenging, but the final 700m does kick up at an average of 5%.Long and straight, this is all about pure power.
A few of the sprinters who have managed to survive until this point will quickly find themselves going backwards, this type of finish is not for your pure sprinter.
After such a fast descent, it will be very difficult for those further back to challenge for the stage.
To win the stage, you must be on the front from 3km to go, that will discount most of the field.

Another sunny day, but with more wind. Coming from the north-east, it will mean a headwind for the opening 90km of the stage.
Once the peloton turn and head towards the finishing town, it turns into a tailwind for a long section. There will be some crosswind sections, but I doubt we’ll see any splits, but teams need to be aware.

--- Thomas De Gendt (Lotto Soudal) 於第一站後穿上領騎綠衫，第二站就完全採取守勢，只有在第三個登山點出來搶了第一，再多攢了3個登山積分，最終也成功保住了 GC 1 以及衝刺王、登山王的領先位置。

--- Chris Froome (Team Sky) 這一場賽事騎得非常保守，除了自己"以賽代訓"持續為之後的環法大賽作調整之外，應該是以帶領隊上年輕小將、傳遞經驗為主，這一站又不幸遇上摔車事故 (幸好只有皮肉傷)，最後就以第 161 名 (+ 14:04) 作收。

After many years of waiting, we final get another visit to Valter 2000. Last year the stage was changed due to bad weather, but this year we go back to the top of the mountain for the first time since 2014. Back then, Tejay Van Garderen took a win that nobody saw coming… thanks to the mist! The year before, it was Nairo Quintana who was first across the line. This is a proper test of climbing ability.
The road into the bottom of Valter is not something to be underestimated. The riders have to deal with 4km at 9% and 11.6km at 5%, before they even get to the big climb. There is a lot of climbing in the final 60km and legs will be sore, even before the final climb.

12.1km at 7.7%, with a maximum of 16%.
As you can see, kilometre 3 to 8 is the toughest, with lots of double-digit gradients. If you can survive until this point, you have a great chance of finishing in the front group. Another hugely important point is the kilometre stretch with seven hairpin bends, this finishes with under a kilometre to go. This is where you must attack if you don’t fancy your chances in a sprint.
This is a great climb and I can’t wait to see it in all its glory.

Another sunny day, with the wind again coming from the north-east.
It means a crosswind for the majority of the climb, with some headwind thrown in as well.

--- Tactical Battle Royale
＊ The problem for most teams is the strength of Movistar.
The Spaniards have Verona, Amador, Soler, Carapaz, Quintana and Valverde.
This is the type of team you take to a grand tour; the others have to be worried.
It’s not like other squads aren’t strong, but they don’t have the depth Movistar bring to the party.
＊ Team Sky would normally be looking to dominate, but their team doesn’t look strong enough.Froome crashed today and that just leaves Sosa to help Bernal late into the climb.
＊ I think we’ll see Movistar attacking from quite far out, as they have plenty of riders to burn.Soler and Carapaz could be used to destroy the other domestiques, forcing the likes of Bernal to use his own energy.
If those moves are covered, it will be the turn of Quintana to move, with Valverde looking to sit on the wheel of anyone who tries to bridge.
It seems the obvious tactic, but a lot of that will depend on the attitude of the other teams.
It promises to be a fascinating stage.

● 預祝偉叔 (Valverde) 在這一站拿下自從 2018.09.30 穿上彩虹衫之後在家鄉 (西班牙) 的第一勝。
【包括昨天的第二站在內，偉叔自從穿上彩虹衫之後，已經在西班牙舉行的比賽中拿了三次的單站第 2 名，單站第 1 名還沒開張。】

※ 事實證明： Team Sky ( 年輕小將們 ) 在爬坡方面的團隊戰力還是非常強勁的。

進入終點前最後的大坡 - Vallter 2000 - 之後，主集團由 Movistar Team 帶領持續追趕殘存的兔子。接著，Team Sky 開始在前方控制並加速，只見一節節火箭燃料用盡脫落，最後僅存 Sebastian Henao 帶著主將 Egan Bernal 追上了僅存的一隻兔子 - Pieter Weening (Roompot-Charles) - 並且讓集團瘦身。Movistar Team 也僅剩 Richard Carapaz 帶著 (後備) 主將 Nairo Quintana 緊咬著不放，主將 Alejandro Valverde 卻漸漸落隊。

約在 Vallter 2000 坡的半途上， Egan Bernal 強力發動了一次重要的攻勢，再一次篩選出有資格在最後終點爭冠的小集團。起先，只有 Nairo Quintana 緊緊跟上，但是他"只跟不輪"，不願意和 Bernal 合作脫逃。就在前方攻勢稍緩之際，Adam Yates (Mitchelton-Scott)、Miguel Angel Lopez (Astana Pro Team)、Dan Martin (UAE-Team Emirates) 等陸續接了上來。之後，Bernal、Lopez 又各發動了一次不成功的攻擊。

五人領先集團在最後的山頂終點決一死戰，Adam Yates 勝出，出力最多的 Egan Bernal 居次，老將 Dan Martin 以其強韌的意志力堅持到最後 ( 二度被甩開又再追上 ) 獲得第三名。"只跟不輪"的 Nairo Quintana 第四名，Miguel Angel Lopez 第五名。

第四站還有爬坡大戰 ( 三個 1 級坡 + 一個 H 級坡 )，GC 主將們還有硬仗要打。

--- 領騎衫 Thomas De Gendt (Lotto Soudal) 拚盡了全力，緊接在 Alejandro Valverde (+2:19) 之後進入終點 (+2:21)，驚險保住了領騎衫 (第三站後領先 GC 第二名的 Adam Yates 27 秒)。但是，第四站還有大坡要爬，他還能挺得住嗎？

--- 偉叔 ( Alejandro Valverde ) 這一站吃鱉了，恐怕是第二站 (第 2 名) 的拚戰消耗過鉅，來不及恢復。畢竟 38 歲了，體能、恢復能力都已經走下坡，至今還能站在檯面上跟這些年輕人一較長短，已屬難能可貴。

--- 前五名有三個哥倫比牙人 ： Egan Bernal (第 2 名)、Nairo Quintana (第 4 名)、Miguel Angel Lopez (第 5 名)。這些都是當今公路車壇的頂尖爬坡高手。

--- Yates 雙胞胎兄弟真的很難分辨誰是誰，同在一隊 ( Mitchelton-Scott ) 不說，這一次還同場出賽 (Adam - No.73 / Simon - No.71)。Eurosport 二位主播在最後的 "Vallter 2000 爬坡大戰" 中一直都把 Adam 錯認作 Simon，還好終點前及時作出了更正。UCI 是否可以考慮增訂一條規定，在這種情形下 (雖然非常少見)，二位車手必須在車衣褲或是車帽上加上明顯易於辨識的字樣或是顏色變化來作出區分 (例如 Adam 可以在車衣前後加上一個大大的 "A")，以便於車賽裁判、主播、觀眾們辨識。光靠車衣背後小小號碼布上的數字，很容易發生像第三站 Eurosport 二位主播一樣的錯誤 (連電視螢幕上打出的車手名字也錯了好一陣子 )。

8.4km at 6.3%, not the hardest climb in the world.
The riders have to tackle this on two occasions, before they have a little kick-up to the finishing line.

The climb does have a difficult 4km section, which can be used to split the bunch and launch attacks.This is exactly what Movistar did last year with Soler, Quintana and Valverde.

After today’s stage (stage 3), it looks like Sky have what it takes to be the dominant team.
They know that Movistar have a lot of quality, but by setting a brutal pace, they eliminated all but Quintana.
As bonus seconds are going to be important, they would again like to drop Valverde and let Bernal sprint for glory.

離終點約 600 m ， López 發動最後一擊，單飛進終點，拿下第 1 名，同時也在第四站後穿上 GC 領騎綠衫與新人王橘衫。

--- Break or Sprint
The sprinters haven’t had a chance to stretch their legs yet. They’ll be disappointed to hear that this is a good day for the break. The climb at the very start means we should see a large break get up the road, sprinter teams have no chance of controlling the start.
Once the peloton gets over the climb, that’s when they can start to chase the move down. The problem is all the uncategorised climbs, these will take the sting out of the chasing group, making it difficult to keep the chase flowing. This is perfect for a strong break.

Another sunny day, with some wind coming off the Mediterranean Sea, but it shouldn’t be enough to split the race, but you just never know.

I think this is the day for the sprinters.
The original route had to be altered, with the cat 3 climbs now coming closer to the finish, but I still think this is one for the quick men.
The start is uphill, but nothing that should worry a professional rider.
I think we’ll see the sprinter teams take control from the gun and a small break will be allowed to slip away.
The final climb crests with 50km remaining, giving the bunch plenty of time to bring the move back and set up a sprint finish.

Not pleasant viewing for the sprinters.
The closing kilometres contain a number of roundabouts, including two in the final kilometre.
Straight after that there is a double turn, making positioning incredibly important.
This is a finale where you need to be right at the front with 5km to go, don’t try and come with a late rush.

This is a very familiar stage, one that always gives us exciting racing.

What it doesn’t usually give us is gaps between the GC riders. Will that change this year?
Miguel Ángel López currently leads the race by 14 seconds to Adam Yates, Egan Bernal is a further 3 seconds back. It looks like these are the only riders capable of taking the GC, you can be sure that López is in for a busy day.

Astana are not here with their top team, which means a lot of work will fall on the shoulders of Kudus and Bilbao, the Colombian will need them to be around deep into the finale of the race, but that is not guaranteed.

It’s over to Team Sky and Mitchelton-Scott. They are the teams trying to put Astana under pressure and set up a frantic final lap.
There won’t be any fancy tactics, just make the pace really hard and drop as many riders as you can.

A clever move would be to try and get a helper up the road, allowing Bernal or Adam Yates to jump across to them in the final lap. To get a gap and keep it will require some help, keep your eye out for Simon Yates, who won this stage last year.

7 laps around the streets of Barcelona, including two climbs: 2.3km at 4.9% and 700m at 6%.
This is the reason we don’t usually see gaps between the top GC riders, the climbs just aren’t hard enough.

Stage 7 ： (最終章)

※ 第六站後，Miguel Ángel López (Astana Pro Team) 在 GC 排行榜上暫居鰲頭，分別領先第二名的 Adam Yates (Mitchelton-Scott) 14 秒、第三名的 Egan Bernal (Team Sky) 17 秒、第四名的 Nairo Quintana (Movistar Team) 25 秒。這種不是不可能翻盤的秒差，再加上可以預期 López 的護衛隊實力有限，讓這三人以及他們所屬的車隊心癢難耐、躍躍欲試。

於是第七站的主戲，就是上演追趕跑跳碰的 GC 1 爭奪大戰，Mitchelton-Scott、Movistar、Sky 輪番上陣，還有 Deceuninck - Quick Step 出來插花搶鏡頭...中間一度由 Adam Yates 成為虛擬的 GC 1。所幸 López 沉著應戰，最終還是有驚無險地保住了 GC 1 的榮銜。

在精彩刺激的 GC 1 爭奪大戰籠罩之下，單飛突圍成功的勇兔 (Davide Formolo / BORA - hansgrohe) 所譜寫的勵志篇章就成了一首動聽的背景音樂了。
